As It Is In Heaven

In class we watched the movie As It Is In Heaven. This movie was about a guy who was stuck in his life doing something he didn’t like, even thought he was very successful doing it. Because of this, he decided to drop everything and find his ‘calling’. This idea of a calling is something we have discussed a lot in class. If one was to find their calling in their work, then they would have meaning and purpose and overall be happier and more successful in their job. Studies have found that people who feel that they have purpose in their work generally produce better work for their employer. If you happen to be unhappy with your job or you don’t feel that the work you are doing is meaningful, then I’m sure you wouldn’t do as good of a job in your position.

While the idea of a calling was a big part of the movie, another concept that was highlighted was all of the things unsaid. Many different characters between this movie held various things in that changed or affected their relationships with each other. In life, there are always times when people keep to themselves and while sometimes it is needed, a lot of the times I think it is best to come out and say what needs to be said. When people hold things in they are not only hurting themselves, but also the person they have a relationship with. I think honesty is an important part of any relationship and being open about your feelings. Overall, I really enjoyed this movie as I have never seen one focused on this topic before. There was an interesting dynamic between the characters that I thought was different.
